Reporting Negative Economic News May Be Banned!!!

I don't know about you, but I think it is a pretty good idea.  When I read this post http://budurl.com/p84p saying that the UAE is considering a ban on bad economic news, I was quite pleased with the idea.  I know it sounds like I am advocating secrecy of the facts.  But that is not my position at all.

This is what it says in the post on Boing Boing: ""The United Arab Emirates is considering legislation that would criminalize publication of anything that would "harm the economy." "

At least this one governmental agency - although they are on the other side of the world - recognizes that the news media is hurting us each and every day.  All efforts made by our government to make things better is being neutralized by the self-interest of the media to keep the "Chicken-Little, Doom-and-Gloom" stories filling their pockets with listeners addicted to the fear mongering.

What do you think?  Would the economy improve by simply banning the media from carelessly "harming" us with the constant, contrived and biased bad news?

You are so right John. Although there is a lot of fear in the online blogging community - at least there is more of a balance. Thanks for your comment.

I agree that the news in some cases raises the level of fear, but at the same time we need the information so that we may plan accordingly ourselves. What would be nice is that the media actually report the causes and the meddling that led to this. Not just the corruption within some of the corporations, but in the government programs that led to some of this. We never seem to get all of the information unless you research yourself, and usually it is uncovered by the bloggers. Which is one reason why the print media is dying a slow death.
